Engineer by training, teacher by calling, entrepreneur by adventure. Blockchain researcher with UKM, principal of AFW Blockchain Academy, and the man who brought ICP blockchain to Malaysia — on a mission to build honest, dignified wealth: Berharta Tanpa Korupsi.
I have a long experience in senior management positions. I was a mechanical engineer with several companies before becoming a lecturer, teaching at universities and institutes in both Malaysia and New Zealand for about eleven years. In every management role since, I have managed to scale the companies I helped run. It has been a journey sprinkled with challenges and not always rewarded with sweet success — the truth is, it was all very hard work, and a great deal of sacrifice.
My entrepreneurial journey began as Business Development Manager for Polis Group Ltd, an architecture and landscape company based in Christchurch, New Zealand. I still serve as business manager for the firm today, and I am grateful to have been part of the team behind the landscaping of Al Bayt Stadium for the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022.
I became a mutual fund consultant in Malaysia, rising to Agency Manager in under four years with one of the country's largest private mutual funds. Helping ordinary families achieve financial freedom — without needing to become millionaires — remains a core part of my work.
Together with friends and clients I formed Al Falah Wealth Sdn Bhd, investing in and managing property using the methodology of Dolf de Roos — buying well, adding value, and letting real estate do the heavy lifting. We sold our properties years later and pivoted the company into research and consultancy.
What began as helping a food manufacturer market health products grew into an online store carrying over sixty food products — with free delivery, before the big online brands arrived in Malaysia.
During the pandemic my team and I pivoted into a donation-based business focused on food for the poor. Ramping up that social mission, I discovered the power of blockchain to protect the genuinely poor from scammers. Our first brush with a so-called blockchain — one running on a cloud server — cost us significant data. That frustration became a passionate search for the real thing, and I found the Internet Computer (ICP). I am proud to be the first to bring ICP blockchain to Malaysia.
With my team I founded a cooperative that develops syllabus and promotes blockchain education through universities. Along the way I have started three blockchain startups — the best known being InfaqGPS, a world-class secure donation-tracking system built so that every ringgit given actually reaches the people it was intended for.
Together with UKM (The National University of Malaysia), we formed the first ICP Blockchain Lab in Malaysia at the Bangi campus. I conducted the first ever ICP workshop at UKM, was invited by University of Malaya to speak at an International Conference on Computation for Science and Technology, and serve as an adjunct lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).
I lead the design and delivery of innovative blockchain courses for the community and the public at large through AFW Blockchain Academy, and serve as Community Coordinator of the Blockchain Interest Group (BIG) — an initiative founded with the Institute of Visual Informatics (IVI-UKM) and Koperasi Al Falah Wealth Berhad.
I am a strong supporter of Palestine. Justice is not a side interest of my work — it is the reason for it. The same conviction that drives me to build transparent systems against corruption and scammers drives my solidarity with the oppressed, wherever they are.
